Storm Clouds

Processed with VSCOcam with x1 preset

One of my favorite things to do after a Southern California storm is to head out to the beach at the end of the day and watch the sunset. The winter weather in Southern California is cold, sunny with an occasional rainstorm. Clouds are always a welcome sight, especially after a storm.

I went down to Seal Beach with my friend Joe (@joebiscocho) because we didn't want to sit in traffic to go to the Packing District. God didn't disappoint us with a beautiful sight.

I spent a beautiful afternoon with Tiffany and Raymond. We explored the Fullerton Arboretum, played a little piano, and sipped iced coffee!

The Arboretum is a beautiful location with lots of variety. It's laid on in different ecosystems of California and has everything from evergreens to bamboo.

I absolutely love partnering with churches to photograph their ministry. This past month visited First Christian Church Huntington Beach. I saw their services, the facilities and later that day, witnessed over 100 people baptized.

The beach baptism event had over 300 attendees. Seeing that many people worship together at the beach was amazing.

Every year we have a show at school to display our work from the semester. I've been taking portraits for all our shows and it's been an amazing learn experience. I've slowly accumulated lighting and backdrop equipment to light a portrait.

Today's shoot included a dark warm grey backdrop kit, a Speedlight in a softbox, a small LED light for back lighting and a white reflector on the front of the subject the bounce beneath. Our goal for this shoot was to emulate the film noir look of high contrast and dark shadows. If I were to add something to the setup, I would have another light to the opposite side at 50% power of the key light. Check out a couple candids and favorites.

South Pasadena Bridal Portraits

I had a blast going back to beautiful South Pasadena to take bridal portraits for my friend Charlotte who's wedding I photographed a couple months ago. It was fun being able to do different poses at the same venue without the reception tables. The afternoon light was terrific and Charlotte was even able to put together a bouquet!
